Coffee, tea, red wine, and years of ordinary living leave their mark on enamel. A drugstore kit can help, but professional whitening is stronger, safer for your teeth, and gets there faster.

At Lakewood Dental, we tailor whitening to your enamel, your goals, and how much sensitivity you can tolerate.

What it is

Professional whitening uses a controlled concentration of peroxide gel to lift stain molecules out of enamel. We offer two proven options: in-office whitening for fast results in a single visit, and custom take-home trays that whiten gradually on your schedule.

Both use dental-grade gel, protect your gums, and are supervised by your dentist. Store-bought strips and over-the-counter gels are far weaker and rarely reach the back of the tooth.

Who it helps

Adults and older teens with healthy teeth and gums who want to lighten stain from coffee, tea, wine, tobacco, or the natural yellowing that comes with age. Also a great pre-treatment before veneers or crowns, so we can shade your restorations to your new brighter color.

Not the right fit for every situation. Whitening does not change the color of crowns, veneers, or fillings, and it works best when your teeth and gums are healthy first.

The process

What to expect

  1. 1

    Quick exam and shade check

We confirm your teeth are healthy enough to whiten and record your starting shade so you can see the difference.

  2. 2

    In-office or take-home

In-office whitening brightens teeth in about an hour. Take-home trays are worn a short time each day for one to two weeks.

  3. 3

    Protect your results

We share simple habits to keep your smile bright longer and provide touch-up gel for future refreshes.

Benefits you can feel

  • Dramatic brightening, often several shades in a single visit
  • Dental-grade gel that is safer on enamel than DIY kits
  • Custom-fit trays that keep gel where it belongs
  • Options for sensitive teeth so treatment stays comfortable
  • Supervised by a dentist from start to finish
  • Predictable results and long-term touch-up support
My take-home trays fit perfectly and the difference showed after just a few days. It was so much easier than any strip I ever tried.

Questions

Frequently asked

How white can my teeth actually get?

Most patients see a noticeable multi-shade improvement. Your natural enamel color, age, and stain type all affect the final result. We will set realistic expectations before we start.

Will whitening hurt?

Some patients feel mild sensitivity for a day or two. We use desensitizing gels and can adjust concentration or wear time to keep you comfortable.

How long do results last?

Typically one to two years, depending on diet and habits. A short touch-up with your take-home trays keeps things bright.

Is professional whitening safe?

Yes, when done under dental supervision. That is the important difference between our whitening and unsupervised kits.

Will it whiten my crowns or veneers?

No. Whitening only lightens natural enamel. If you have visible restorations, we plan around that so your smile ends up balanced.
